Detail of ”Memesis”

“Some encounters make an instantaneous god appear in the fabric of things. The world suddenly very clearly speaks to us in a different way, and at the same time, the unknown takes over. Recomposing the carnal body of this instantaneous god and setting it in a durable matter: this is what Pierre Montant accomplishes. A way of painting which perpetuates not the physicality of the site or the object, but what happened between the spectator (it is immediately ourselves) and the face of the world suddenly carrying a more intense call. These paintings are commemorative revelations: simply being there was wonderful, and the wonder must be prolonged.”

– Jean Starobinski

A painting is the geometric place of desire: cosmic desire to understand, to explore, to meet, to admire, to escape.
